sturtevant adventure

I hike frequently and really enjoy just being out and active. Usually I won't take my nicer camera but Sturtevant Falls is just too gorgeous to deny anymore. Not only is it a lovely landscape, but every inch of it is perfect for portraits. I've only done one major photo idea so far on the trails, but two friends of Lucas (my best friend) found out I was a photographer. Hali and Anneli are both pretty sporty and active so we decided on an early morning hike to shoot some senior portraits, only to find out that day had a 70% chance of rain storms. We managed to make it work! Sam, my hiking buddy and other best friend and model, tagged along to enjoy the morning with us. This of course meant our usual Hobbit style second breakfast and tea once we arrived at the falls.
It was pretty cold and sprinkling on an off. The hike was easy, as usual, and we arrived at the waterfall in good time. The girls had never seen it and I always get excited to show people the trail and the end result for the first time. They were real troopers, it was cold and damp but they managed to changed out of each outfit without a problem. One of us was always on stand-by to provide their jackets while waiting. There was also the unfortunate case of...the log. We dubbed it "The Story of the Damn Log." It was floating in the pool and always ended up in my shot. I make the mistake of seeing flaws in my background and I say "I'll edit it out." I always regret it, so I did something about it this time. And so the Log Saga began, which involved taking my boots off to try and drag it out of the water while my feet froze and went numb. Sam was eventually victorious and we removed it to dry and stay by the rocks as a seat for later use, maybe in the summer if nobody moves it again. I also walked around barefoot for a while (because I'm an idiot and I can't help it when water is around) and I tried to hop onto a rock, fell on my knee and scraped my camera. I ripped my jeans and got a bruise but it was all to save myself from landing ON the camera. My knee will survive, the camera however, will not if it gets smashed.
We ended the day successfully and traveled back to drive down the mountain in a warm toasty car. It poured rain at noon just as expected and we replenished ourselves with In-N-Out, and thank you to Anneli for that treat! Here are my favorites. A few are Brenizers which came out BEAUTIFUL, thank goodness.
